Like Johnny, I’ve been a Split Enz fan from the jump. They were quite a different band from what you hear on this collection. Neil didn’t join until 3 albums in. It was Tim’s band (not to slight the other members, who deserve equal billing), and when younger brother Neil entered the picture, the experimental/prog elements moved to the background in favor of pop smarts. This is an excellent collection of the Neil years.
I've been a fan of them from the get-go, partly because they were mentored by Roxy Music and Phil Manzanera (Split Enz members appear on Phil's solo albums). Their 2nd album was mixed by Geoff Emerick and capture the wackier side of a Beatles sound. Check out "My Mistake."
Oh wow, I love this song, haven’t heard it in years! Not sure I ever knew this was Split Enz and I certainly never knew that Neil Finn did anything before Crowded House
I’m going to have to check this one out. I liked what Neil Finn was putting out, both with this band and with Crowded House, but never really explored it any further than the radio singles and MTV videos. Maybe this greatest hits album is a good start.
A friend of mine, Jon Magidsohn, wrote a book on every song and album Crowded House released. Here's a link if you're interested in checking it out: https://a.co/d/0hcJcl87

Cool to have been a fan from the jump! And great to see the band evolve over the years.

Yes, I’ll check out that album and song—thanks for letting me know!

Yes, such a great song! And Neil's wonderful pre-Crowded House band. Cheers!

Yes, I think this album would be the perfect start! Happy listening!
Fantastic record, and a nice document of the early days of one of the world’s best pop songwriters - Neil Finn.

Yes, Neil is one of the best, indeed.
Perfect, thanks Alex 🫡
