It is a monument of an album! Stark, unrelenting and heartbreakingly real, it's one of my favorite Springsteen albums! I was blown away by it from the first listening and it still moves me today. Johnny 99, Highway Patrolman and State Trooper are three in a row stories of life, death, redemption and the wages of sin told with an eye for extraordinary detail and realism. Nebraska is American art at its best.

Yes, one of my favourites too! Every song a classic. And like you eloquently say, 'told with an eye for extraordinary detail and realism."

This was the album that made me like Springsteen. Born To Run is good but a little over the top, and his voice always sounded like Rocky to me. But with Nebraska, I finally got it.

That's awesome that Nebraska was your entry point. Such a deep and soulful record.

I didn’t like “Nebraska” at first because I wanted more of what made BS my favorite rock & roller in the first place, not some introspective naval gazing stuff, but there’s no doubt that album has now haunted my soul all my long life!

Yes, some records can take time to get inside and reach us and touch us. I'm pleased that it found its way into your life.

I took our 18 year old grandson to see “Deliver Me From Nowhere” last fall. I’ll always treasure that.

That must have been awesome taking your grandson to see the movie! I enjoyed your post too. I've taken my son with me to two Springsteen concerts in Toronto over the past ten years - it was so great.

I took our daughter about ten years ago to see BS and what was left of The E Street band with Clarence Clemons’ nephew on the sax blowing the horns that his uncle, “The Big Man,” left him in his will. It was the fortieth anniversary of “The River” tour. I took our daughter because her mother didn’t want to go. It was a great father / daughter bonding experience. Our daughter is a hardworking single Mom who really needed a night out for a great concert. I hadn’t seen Bruce Springsteen myself since my teens forty years before that concert!

The record that really changed all my listening habits was Feats Don’t Fail Me Now
